Fort Bend MuseumThe city of Rosenberg and the surrounding area has several interesting historical sites for you to visit. Whether you are into learning the history of the area or about a specific location, there is something for you to explore.

1. Fort Bend Museum

Do you enjoy exploring old homes? Take a trip to the Fort Bend Museum in Richmond. The house was built in 1883. You can check-in for your tour at 600 Houston St., across from the Long-Smith Cottage. You can reserve your tour by buying tickets online before you arrive. During your visit, you’ll have the chance to explore two locations. The Historic Moore Home was built in 1883 and has been on the National Registrar of Historic places since 2001.

You can also visit the Long-Smith Cottage, on land once owned by Jane Long. She is known as the Mother of Texas. The cottage was built in 1855.

2. George Ranch Historical Park

Are you interested in the history of Texas and Bend County? The George Ranch Historical Park gives you the chance to explore history through immersive and interactive activities. The park is located on a working ranch at 10215 FM 762 Rd in Richmond. An admission fee is required, and there are military discounts available.

While you are at the park, you can enjoy four different historic sites; each one covers a different period of Texas history. You can start in the 1830s with a visit to the Jones Stock Farm. It dates back to when the area was considered part of Northeast Mexico. After that, take a 30-year jump in time to post-Civil War Texas when you visit the Ryon Prairie Home.

The third home offers a look at the 1890s in Texas when you visit the Davis Victorian Complex. The final property lets you explore the 1930s at the George Cattle Complex. Each location has several areas to explore, including outbuildings. The homes are on a loop that is 1.25 miles long. It is a beautiful walk, or you can use the tram to travel between sites. Three of the homes also have wheelchair lifts or ramps on the first floor so everyone can enjoy the day. If you are traveling with someone who needs a minute to relax, there are quiet corners available.

Along with the homes, there is a Heritage Trail that is a half-mile loop. It runs along a dry creek and features several places to relax.

3. Rosenberg Railroad Museum

The Rosenberg Railroad Museum welcomes fans of the rails to 1921 Avenue F. Admission is required but includes a docent-led tour. While you are on the property, you can enjoy several exhibits. Start your trip in the main gallery, which includes several images and exhibits. Then you can explore different trains as well as check out a model railroad.

As you plan your day at each location, invite your friends and family to join you. It gives you a chance to connect with them and step away from daily life for a little while. Don’t forget your camera, but remember to ask about each location’s photography policy.
