When you’re looking for fun activities to enjoy in the Rosenberg, Texas, area, you don’t have to travel too far outside the city. This spot has fascinating attractions for all ages, and many of the activities are affordable for those on a budget.
1. Rosenberg Railroad Museum
If you want to learn more about the history of Rosenberg, head to the Rosenberg Railroad Museum. Visitors of all ages will enjoy ringing the loud, clanging railroad bell and exploring the expansive grounds. The museum is located next to three active train lines in the city’s downtown area, which means you may hear train horns during your visit. You can explore the park-style grounds and check out historical railroad artifacts, including a fully restored business railcar that dates back to 1879.
You can also visit Tower 17, the original signal tower used on Rosenberg railways in the past. When you walk through the tower, you can pull the levers to send real semaphore signals, just as the tower operators did in their day.
The museum is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $7.50 per adult and $5 for children between the ages of 2 and 14. Military members, first responders, and seniors ages 55 and over get in for $6.
2. Japanese Garden
Houston’s Japanese Garden is also worth a visit. This beautiful outdoor space is located in Hermann Park and is known as the oasis of Houston. The garden was designed by world-renowned landscape architect, Ken Nakajima, who incorporated natural wood and rock materials to provide a peaceful, serene feeling.
As you stroll along the walking paths, you’ll see lush greenery and colorful flowers, as well as a pond with brightly colored fish swimming in the water. In 2012, 20 new cherry trees were added to the garden, commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the gift of cherry trees from Japan to the U.S. in 1912.
Admission is free, and the garden is open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the spring and summer months. Between November 1 and February 28, it closes an hour earlier at 5 p.m.
3. Artistic Endeavors Art Studio
Located on Westwood Drive in Rosenberg, Artistic Endeavors art studio displays unique and thought-provoking pieces by artist Sheri Herbert, who also runs the studio and teaches art classes to interested participants. Herbert uses strong shadows and lights to create the mood experienced when viewing her impressionist-style paintings.
Herbert believes that the purpose of creating art is to encourage thinking and develop the artist’s thought process. As she teaches students to develop their own talents, she encourages varying levels of contemplation to boost their creative potential. You can stroll through the gallery to see the art pieces on display for free, although the art classes do come at a cost.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to get out and have some fun with your loved ones in Rosenberg. These activities and attractions are all affordable and easily accessible.
