Legacy Ford of Rosenberg

antique shopRosenberg, Texas, was originally a railroad town, founded in 1843 and named after Henry Rosenberg, the first president of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. Whether you’re interested in U.S. history, trains, art, or culture or just like learning new things, Historic Downtown Rosenberg is definitely worth a visit. Here are a few must-visit spots.

Rosenberg Railroad Museum

Since it all started with the railroad, the Rosenberg Railroad Museum is a great first stop on your tour of Historic Downtown Rosenberg. Started in 1992 by a group of history-loving locals, this museum is a tribute to the rich history of the town. Only one original structure from the original railroad town survived, so many artifacts had to be acquired. Today, you’ll find a museum gallery, an observation tower, and a gift shop on the grounds.

Come by Friday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or Sunday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Memberships are available that cover admission for one year. Two refurbished railcars are available to tour, and a garden railroad display can be enjoyed by all ages. Keep an eye out for fun events happening at the museum.

Antique Shops

Historic Downtown Rosenberg is a must for antique shoppers. With more than seven shops within a few blocks, you’ll have so much shopping and exploring to do. Vogelsang Antique Emporium on Avenue G is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and sells railroad memorabilia, books, collectibles, vintage furniture, and much more. This shop is especially interesting because its building is an antique itself, built in 1910.

Other great antique shops worth checking out include Antiques Around the Corner, Red Queen’s Attic Antiques, Jay and Barb’s Antiques, Once Again, and The Barn Door. All these shops are on Third Street, so they’ll be easy to find. The Barn Door is a great spot to find unique handmade gifts, such as repurposed items, soaps, and boutique items. If you’re interested in comics or board games, you’ll want to stop by Once Again. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday and has a very impressive selection.

Cafes and Restaurants

One of the most popular and historic places to eat in Rosenberg is the Ol Railroad Cafe. It’s located inside the Vogelsang Antique Emporium, in the same historic building. You can enjoy lunch Tuesday through Saturday, dinner on the weekends, and brunch on Sundays. Stop by on a Sunday for a delicious brunch from a menu full of favorites such as shrimp and grits, steak and eggs, and buttermilk pancakes. The dinner menu offers even more mouthwatering options, such as crab cakes, lamb shank, and a Black Angus rib-eye steak.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, be sure to stop by Another Time Soda Fountain and Cafe for a retro-style burger and soda. This diner serves up favorites from the 1950s, such as cherry phosphates, banana splits, and malted milk shakes. For some great coffee and a relaxing atmosphere, check out Corazon Coffee, featuring fresh bakery items and locally roasted coffee beans.

History buffs, food lovers, and shopaholics all have something to enjoy in Historic Downtown Rosenberg. Walk the streets and enjoy everything this charming town has to offer.
