bayou swampJust 40 minutes outside of Houston, Texas, the town of Rosenberg offers many great places to enjoy nature. Whether you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing time at a local park, a hike through the woods, or some time on the water, there’s something near Rosenberg for you. Here are four ways to explore the great outdoors in the area.

Walk Through Seabourne Creek Nature Park

Right in the center of Rosenberg, Seabourne Creek Nature Park covers 164 acres. Walking trails wind throughout the park, passing wetlands, a butterfly garden, a pond, and a native prairie restoration area. Come by the park for one of the regular events, such as birdwatching classes, nature walks, or the Prairie Heritage Festival. With almost 2 miles of crushed granite trail, this is the perfect place for a refreshing walk.

Ride Horseback or Hike at Brazos Bend State Park

If you have a horse, enjoy a ride at Brazos Bend State Park. The 13 miles of multiuse trails welcome horseback riders and offer primitive equestrian campsites for overnight adventures. Along the way, you’ll ride through lush forests and alongside rivers, creeks, and lakes.

Hikers will enjoy the more than 37 miles of trails in the state park. All the trails are good for young or novice hikers, but they also provide interesting scenery so experienced hikers won’t get bored. Ranging from 0.5 miles to 1.7 miles in length and offering plenty of connecting areas, there are trails for whatever kind of hike you want. Brush up on alligator safety, and keep an eye out as you near the various waterways during your hikes. Pets are welcome but should be kept on leashes.

Enjoy a Bike Ride on the Keegans Bayou and Brays Bayou Trails

Start at Kirkwood Road, just 26 minutes east of Rosenberg, to catch the Keegans Bayou Trail. This trail connects to the Brays Bayou Trail and offers more than 15 miles of flat easy surface, perfect for an easy bike ride. The route is out and back, so you can plan for lunch in Houston before turning around to head home. Along the way, you’ll stay next to the Brays Bayou River. At the other end of the trail, you’ll meet up with Brays Bayou Park, the Houston Zoo, and Hermann Park.

Explore the Waters With Bayou City Adventures

Bayou City Adventures has several qualified tour guides and instructors to help you get out on the waters around Houston. Just a 40-minute drive from Rosenberg, this is a destination you won’t want to miss. You can kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or canoe on the Buffalo Bayou.
