George Ranch Cattle ComplexWhen you want to get out and about in Rosenburg, Texas, there are a number of must-see attractions you don’t want to miss. Whether you’re looking to stay indoors or you want to be out in the fresh air, you’ll find something that interests you when you explore our town. Here are a few of the places we think you’ll enjoy.

Rosenberg Railroad Museum

If you’re looking for a fun place to take the family this weekend, the Rosenberg Railroad Museum, or RRM, is open to the public Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This hidden gem is fun for people of all ages and you’ll be glad you came. Visitors love exploring Tower 17, where everyone gets a chance to operate the electro-mechanical interlocker, which is the machine that controlled the switches and signals for passing trains. Kids will enjoy the garden railroad, a miniature depiction of historic Rosenberg, and the surrounding area complete with trains.

Other exhibits include the 1879 “Quebec,” a 1972 caboose, and Wawa’s Train. Don’t forget to stop by the Whistle Stop Gift Shop on your way out to pick up a souvenir.

Brazos Bend State Park

There are a wide variety of activities to enjoy at Brazos Bend State Park, from hiking and biking to fishing and camping. This 5,000-acre park sits on the upper Texas coast and is the perfect place to do some stargazing or wildlife viewing. Its varied terrain makes it the ideal home for over 300 bird species as well as the American alligator and other reptiles and amphibians. If you visit during the right season, you’ll be rewarded with views of wildflowers and a wealth of butterflies fluttering around.

Before you venture out into the park, stop by the nature center where you’ll find all the information you need to make the most of your visit.

Fort Bend Museum

At the Fort Bend Museum, you can take a tour of the historic home that once belonged to Congressman John. M. Moore and his wife, Lottie Dyer Moore. The grand home, built in 1883, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. You can also tour one of the oldest buildings in the area, the 1855 Long-Smith Cottage. As you tour the buildings and walk the grounds, you’ll be taken back in time and have the chance to experience a taste of what life was like in the 1800s.

George Ranch Historical Park

Another great place to experience the history of the area is at George Ranch Historical Park. Here, you can tour four historic home sites: the 1830s Jones Stock Farm, the 1860s Ryon Prairie Home, the 1890s Davis Victorian Mansion, and the 1930s George Ranch Home and Cattle Complex. In addition to touring the sites, you’ll encounter costumed interpreters, hands-on activities, blacksmithing demonstrations, and more. This 20,000-acre working ranch is a great place to take the whole family to learn and have fun.

These are just a few of the must-see attractions in the Rosenberg area. Visit them all to see for yourself what makes them so special.
