What Is Transmission Service?
Like an oil change or tire rotation, transmission service is part of regular routine car maintenance. Regular transmission service usually involves a transmission fluid flush and exchange, but can also involve replacing or cleaning the filter, or examining the sump pan. Your vehicle’s transmission fluid is what lubricates the moving parts inside of its transmission and over time, that fluid becomes contaminated as moving metal parts of the transmission wear down and create metal particles that float around the fluid. If these particles are not flushed out regularly, the lifespan of your transmission can be shortened significantly. It’s also worth noting that automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is different from the transmission fluid that would go into a vehicle with a manual transmission.
