When to Replace Belts and Hoses
Belts and hoses are typically made from flexible rubber compounds. Over time, these materials become dry and brittle due to being exposed to heat and dust, which will eventually cause them to break if they are not replaced. Belts and hoses should be replaced about every 50,000 miles, but this can vary based on vehicle and driving conditions. Any of the issues listed below could also be due to issues with belts or hoses.
- Sudden loss of power steering
- Bubbles or lumps on hose
- Loud screeching noise
- Engine is overheating
- Signs of glazing on the belt
- Belt/hose is cracking or fraying
